Happy birthday to our printmaker Karen Potter, born on this day.

Karen’s images are inspired by light, colour and the changing seasons on the landscape. She often starts with the one colour that hits her first, for example the bright yellow rape seed on the downs or the purple haze of a mountain and then builds the picture from that point.

Lithography allows her to explore with overlapping use of colour and texture, the mood she strives to achieve. The anticipation of laying on the final colour is a pleasure that never leaves her.

As well as capturing the views of Sussex, Karen spends the late summer in the west of Ireland where the unique lanscape of Connemara with its dramatic contrasts of sea, sky, land and bog have captured her heart and inspired her latest work.
