Happy Birthday Laine Tomkinson
Today we wish happy birthday to fine art printmaker Laine Tomkinson. In celebration of her special day Laine is generously offering a 20% discount off all her prints at For Arts Sake until April 17th (both online and in the gallery).
Laine’s practice has developed over thirty years, experimenting with all aspects of printmaking and painting and now specialising in silkscreen processes. Her most recent screen prints are inspired by the landscape, special places and seasonal cycles. Many feature natural forms, flowers or organic shapes, tumbling, moving, dancing – almost bursting out of the frame.
“I’m always trying to represent a specific experience in my screen prints. I approach each new work without a definitive blueprint, orchestrating my personal array of shapes and marks, then building up layers of colours to develop an image that is both true to the initial sensation and which hopefully quickens the pulse.
Recently I’ve been experimenting with my screen prints by adding layers of paint over an already colour saturated print, producing a one off mixed media work which I may develop as a small edition in the future. Working like this, trying out shapes and forms with immediacy, keep my work fresh.
Over the course of this year my practice has changed hugely, from bold, bright works using a small array of colour to my most recent work which has more tones and depth employing both muted and vibrant colours.”
Laine Tomkinson is a fine art printmaker based in the East Midlands. In recent times she has shown prints in many countrywide exhibitions. She has recently been selected as the featured artist by the British Printmakers Council.
